Despite high under five mortality and over-crowded pediatric emergency rooms, there is no training available for Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Physicians in Pakistan. ChildLife Foundation operates three Pediatric ERs in government hospitals treating half a million children every year. Realizing the dire need for trained PEM Physicians, it has joined hands with Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) to launch a 6-month PEM Certification program. The first batch of 13 doctors started training in August. The course is facilitated by the Clinical team at ChildLife & DUHS who have clinical and research experience in Pediatric ER both in Pakistan and North America. The curriculum has been designed and being delivered in consultation with American Board certified PEM physicians.
